U.S. Tourist's Kidnappers Demand $500,000 Ransom in Uganda

Shooters who captured an American traveler and her driver in an Ugandan national park on Tuesday are requesting a payoff of $500,000, the East African country's legislature said.
Kimberley Sue Endecott, 35, and her driver, Jean Paul, were snatched in Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park around 380 kilometers (236 miles) west of the capital, Kampala. The recreation center is close to the fringe with the Democratic Republic of Congo and nearby Virunga National Park, where two British visitors were held prisoner by Congolese radicals in May 2018.

"We unequivocally trust the culprits and unfortunate casualties could in any case be caught inside our pursuit territory," the Uganda Police said in an announcement on Twitter.

An old traveler couple that was going with the unfortunate casualties announced the episode after the abductors left with their allies, the Uganda Police said.

Police precluded a payment installment, saying it would jeopardize different vacationers in future, the Daily Monitor paper revealed. The travel industry is Uganda's greatest worker of remote cash, and specialists gauge the business' income hopped by about a fifth a year ago to $1.7 billion after a visit by performer and style architect Kanye West and his better half Kim Kardashian West.


A year ago, a gathering of Congolese renegades trapped a vehicle shipping visitors to Congo's Virunga, murdered a recreation center officer and held two British natives medium-term close to the Congolese town of Goma. The recreation center, known for its jeopardized mountain gorillas, was shut to voyagers following the occurrence and revived in February.
